- Fat is essential for life. We all need to have it to live. (Most of us wish that fat never existed.)
- Fat is stored, excess energy to be used later if needed. (When was the last time you went without food for more than a day so we can use the stored fat? mostly never.)
- We cannot “spot reduce” fat in a particular area. You cannot do thigh exercises to lose thigh and hip fat or do crunches to lose abdominal fat.
- We only make new fat cells from birth through teenage years. Once growth and development is done we do not make new fat cells. There are two exceptions: extreme obesity and pregnancy. But before you jump up to celebrate, be aware that each fat cells can store a lot of fat. They can blow up with fat like a balloon.
